Outreach

Public engagement in research provides an essential step towards scientific literacy. I enjoy several outreach opportunities with K-12, university and post baccalaureate students. Collaboration on citizen-science projects provide a particularly meaningful way to connect students with both the natural history of ecological systems and the scientific process.

Curriculum development

In collaboration with Nature Mapping Jackson Hole, The Meg & Bert Raynes Wildlife Fund and the Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation, I coordinate a citizen-science effort to document pika occurrence in Western Wyoming.

Together with Teton Science Schools and the University of Wyoming, I help to integrate hands-on science experiences into K-12 and teacher-training programs.

In 2010, I founded the North American Pika Consortium, in cooperation with several agency partners and non-profit organizations. The consortium provides a forum for discussion about all things pika, and hosts a conference every two to three years. For more information about the 2017 conference check out our webpage.
